Allies are people outside of the LGBTQIA+ community that support the civil rights and equality of those within the community. Allies have an important role in amplifying the voices of marginalized people and their perspectives, and are active in standing up for injustices.
Being an ally
The Human Rights Campaign, an organisation that focuses on LGBTQIA+ rights, has some starter resources, with links off to more. Some parts are more focused on the United States of America, so try to find local organisations that you can help out too.
Flag history
This flag was
uploaded to Wikimedia
by the user Straight-allies-for-equality (no user page) in 2011, linking to the
Tumblr URL
straight-allies-for-equality.
The
Wayback Machine
does not have posts from that time (or any time), only archiving not found
pages. There are also no further URLs archived for that site.
The description states that the upside-down "V" represents the "A" in "activism", with the black and white stripes representing heterosexuality.

And finally, a thank you to the Internet Archive and the
team behind the
Wayback Machine. This project would
not exist without them. The Wayback Machine was used to view websites that are
no longer available to verify information throughout this site, ensuring
information came from as close to the source as possible. The internet is not
eternal, and information can be lost all too easily. The Archive is an important
tool in preserving human knowledge, and deserves recognition.
